Milpitas, California - SMI (Silicon Microstructures, Inc.) is excited to announce its continued leadership and innovation in the in vivo pressure measurement space. The next generation of the IntraSenseTM product line launched last year by SMI is now available: IntraSenseTM Calibrated. A fully temperature compensated and pressure calibrated version of IntraSenseTM, greatly simplifying setup and use.
IntraSenseTM is the first commercially available pressure sensor that fits into 1-French tubes and has pre-attached wires for ease of integration. With a calibration board now available on the proximal end of the device, setup and readout are even easier, with both amplified analog as well as digital outputs attached to a 5-pin connector. The extremely small size of the sensor allows it to be attached to catheters, endoscopes and other equipment where space is at a premium. In addition to established pressure measurement procedures in cardiology and neurology, IntraSenseTM allows equipment designers to add pressure-sensing functionality to new applications in urology, ENT, reproductive health, guided biopsies and other disciplines.
Calibration and subsequent submersion in saline ensures stable performance (<1mmHg change in output in 37°C saline) for at least twelve hours. The sensors are calibrated across a pressure range from -300 mmHg to +1300 mmHg, and from 0°C to 101°C. Users may use amplified analog outputs or an optional standard I2C digital interface for easy system integration.
“Physicians have long had to deal with the challenges associated with changing sensors from room temperature to body temperature upon insertion into the body,” explains Dr. Justin Gaynor, VP of IntraSenseTM Products at SMI. “Now, without costly capital equipment or real time calibration, this transition becomes effortless.”
